About the district

District Sarangarh-Bilaigarh came into existence on 1 September 2022 through the division of District Raigarh and Balodabazar-Bhatapara. It is located in the north-eastern direction of Chhattisgarh state. The headquarters of the district is in Sarangarh. Sarangarh is 201 km from the state capital Raipur. In the freedom movement of Chhattisgarh state, farmer movement and forest satyagraha have taken place in Sarangarh area. Sarangarh area was one of the 14 princely states. The God rulers ruled here, in which the grand palace Girivilas Palace is priceless in terms of beauty. Natural heritage includes Gomarda Sanctuary, Madosilli Waterfall, Khapan Waterfall, and Putka Reservoir, Kedar Dam, Kinkari Dam, Suloni Dongri tourist places.

Rank of the district in Chhattisgarh is 30th. Population of the district is 6,17,252 (six lakh seventeen thousand two hundred fifty two) (2011 census) in which ST are 13.33% and SC are 28.62%.
